MY SOLDIER


Everybody I meet loves my soldier.
Insincerity screams in their eyes.
I get the handshakes he’s out to earn.
I get the hug and the lies.
“Tell him we’re thinking about him.
And, bartender, this man a beer.”
Then its houses and upside gas prices
For to them, my soldier ain’t here.

They engage me in deep conversation
The pro’s and the con’s and the why’s.
And who is to blame for Valerie Plame
And which party’s worse for their lies.

But the Cowboy have taken T.O
And who’s going to win the NBA?
Did Duke Lacrosse rape that ho?
What’s the weather today?
Can Dannica Patrick really drive
Like Michelle Wei
Should women be allowed in places
Where only men can be?

A helicopter girl is running for office
With no legs, but she’s a Dem
She didn’t do nothing.
No patriot at all.
We don’t have time for that
We’ve immigrants
And a wall to build.

My soldier is out there somewhere
I don’t know why.
I hate the war but proudly say
Semper Fi.
A flashlight yesterday
A letter tomorrow
Are the best that I can do
While I dread the car outside the house
That tells me he paid America’s due.
