Just a little fun, based on a, mostly true story Rock

Poem Artwork

I didnno much bout the Irish ways, for there's none I know of where, I  was raised,

but when, I moved  to Illinois in 73, they were every where the eye could see.
Mayor Daley was a true Irish king, his power in Chicago, quite a thing,

and when the 17th of March came round they turned the, Chicago, river green,

and not a sober Irishman could be found, nor heard, nor seen.

Parades and dancin everywhere, confetti shamrocks floatin in the air,

leperchons and fancy jigs, stuff I'd never seen, nor even new was real

But all my friends were Irish, and my heart, did they steal,

for the next year on St Patties Day, I was, strummin an Irish tune, sittin, an sippin, green ale, in, the parade, on a float, then settin firecrackers off, in an, over crowded, boat.

on a river dyed green, you, could, walk, from, hull to hull,
for, bein an Honorary Irishman, was anything but dull.
The memories are faded now, but, I can still recall, that, when ya drink,

an party, with the Irish, you're in for,

one heck of a ball,

and if ya even remember, some of what happened, it's better,

just to deny it all.

Cuzz the priest and the policeman that you dancied a jig with, and sang the songs of old,

will tell ya that the magic of St Patrick's Day, is playin with your mind,

and nothin went the way, you seem to think it did.

Why, look at the river me son, no green to be seen,

It's all, just a story ya made up,

in your, own sotted, blarney, filled,

head.

Irishmen never get drunk, on St Patrick's Day, me son,
cuzz, everyone, everywhere, knows,
they get dressed up, in their finest,

and go to mass, instead.
