A small country store

Stands against a background

Of snow covered pines

Bare of Christmas lights

And tacky neon signs,

Its frosted windows lit by a single electric bulb.

The flight of a redbird winging toward a nearby tree,

Dark green peeking from a beneath a white blanket,

Lacy flakes of snow falling,

A Christmas Card of its own making...

It does not need fancy lights

To light the way to Christmas.

The simple country store speaks for itself.

Beneath the snow covered roof somewhere,

Between the glass candy case and the old red pop cooler,

There is a hidden pathway that leads back to childhood

Of by gone days when reindeer could fly...
