Searching through a maze

of images on a screen,

I freeze at the sight of one

that momentarily stilled my pulse.

The sight of an eye

gazing silently at me

spoke to my soul and 

penetrated my being

with such force I yearned to reach out

and comfort his hurt, erase his suffering,

protect and hold his sensitive spirit,

and Love his Pain away. 

Behind the eye I saw an aching soul,

which housed a tender, passionate heart

undeserving of the abuse witnessed and felt

by the child that dwelled within.

Strong, dominant leader of men he became.

A being of strong character and analytical

intelligence, father of two men-children, provider,

protector of family, fruit of his loins.

Women recognize the potency of his power,

awe at the gentleness nestled within his strength,

swoon at the sound of his commanding voice,

quiver at the magnificence of his masculine body.

Brave enough to stand for his beliefs,

always determined to fight for what’s right.

Unquenchable knowledge seeker, teacher and friend,

loyalty governs his essence to the bitter end.

I witness the makeup of a man

who gripped my heart with the image of an eye,

the trials and scars I spot through the eye’s pane

of whom I vow to love the pain away.
