I wrote lots of poetry for my students when I was teaching school. Sometimes those smiling faces I recall still capture my thoughts.
Growing TowardDreams
Tender youth and innocence Hopes and dreams reaching for tomorrow Gentle children, vulnerable and fearful Walking a tightrope into a turbulent society
Beginning with the stark reality Of a vast strange new world, When mother’s womb drops her babe To the first stirring screams of life.
Mama and daddy thrilling at the first smile Joy bright in their cheerful eyes Cooing and raving with proud delight Laughing at babies’ precious sighs.
Comes the sweetness of life Like a soft malleable piece of clay The whole world at a child’s tender feet Exciting new fresh starts every day.
Then like weeds reaching toward the sky Bodies growing strong and tall Seeking knowledge of a strange new world Shaping, molding a life, a future.
Growth inevitable
Life spinning toward tomorrow
Changing with metamorphic versatility
Life, goals, emotions, strife, picking up the pieces,
Resolving issues, always reaching, always seeking
The great Holy Grail of life
YES...AND THIS IS LIFE...THEY GROW FROM DEPENDABLE INFANTS THAT NEED US, WHICH WE ADORE, FOR THEM AND OURSELVES...TO INDEPENDENT YOUNG ADULTS, WHICH WE DON'T RELISH, FOR OURSELVES AND FOR THEM. THEY ONLY THING WE CAN DO IS LET THEM GO AND PRAY THAT THEIR DREAMS INCLUDE GOD. THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS, LOVE, JOYCE*HIS INSPIRATIONS
Soft breezes of the natural truth, beautiful Jeanette!
In teaching, caring for and nurturing the young we are always given insightful glimpses of such truths as you have well penned. However growth is inevitable and the ultimate blessing for us to behold!
What a beautiful write my friend. I would love to hear or read some of the poetry that you penned for your students, I know it was magnificent! I too love to write poetry for my students, with teaching the first grade, one would think that they wouldn't appreciate poetry, but they love it, all styles...silly, soft, and often times that laced with a hint of excitement and emotions. I have also found that many have wonderful interpretations of the art! Enjoyed this my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.
You have written this one so delicately and passionately from your heart. Always so wonderful to observe the gleam in the eyes of children as they strive for success.....
Jeanette, first...I've missed you for a week or so and next, this is a breath-taking poem...illustrating how tender our youngster's are and the tight rope they do have to thread. They are released to the world to learn and attain their goals...I'm sure you were the greatest of great teacher from reading this poem and I'm sure they learned many important things from you. This is an exceptional writing!
Growing Toward Dreams brings to us the enlightened view of a wise and ripened intellect seeing with panoramic maturity what others of us treat as a flurry of activity in raising a family and merely getting through the day in a "turbulent society," caught up ourselves in the malaise of not being able to see the forest for the trees, in not taking the time to enjoy the giggles and the laughter, and in not taking the time to comfort the tears and sobs of a young child moving and reacting to life.
"Growth inevitable, Life spinning toward tomorrow..." Yes, Jeanette, you have seen it all and understood it well. And now you bring it to us hoping we, too, will understand.
I agree with George Carroll: "Your children in school sure had a wonderful teacher."
For a child, there is no substitute for love and understanding, and in these your heart is overflowing
From the womb, to birth, to growth, you have brought to life what each life must face and come to comprehend. Your children in school sure had a wonderful teacher.
A wicked Cajun Fairy named Robes Pierre entered the impenetrable Magical doll land of Sha Bebe. Queen Faustina, the ruler of the doll land, thought she had destroyed him, but he's back! Will the doll land survive his evil ways?
The familiar lament of dual-career parents raising children is, "I just can't do it all." The Libra Solution provides an alternative - a more satisfying and sustainable work and life approach - to the overwrought modern day norm.
It's almost Christmas. Lynn Basil is writing her last book about a secret entrance into the magical doll land of Sha Bebe that she loves so much. Bagannos have taken over the world! Lynn finally meets her dolls in real life. Can she write in a Secret
