REPOSTING: An enlightened and grateful man gives thanks.

This poem was posted on AD for at least a couple of years and had several thousand "hits." And then I noticed one day it was "missing." Probably my own fault. I get a little wild on the keyboard once in awhile. I hope you enjoy this posting. If I Could Go Back Earth If I could go back to Earth one day, I wonder what I would do. One certainty in mind would be That it would have to do with you. From the broader view of Heaven, I understand much more than before. I’ve learned that caring and kindness And love will open any door. You were sweet and gentle and beautiful And imbued with a sensitive touch. If only I had searched my heart, I wouldn’t regret so much. But life presented issues and choices In the problems of my day, And I oftentimes was ignorant Because I wanted it all my way. Maturity was scarce and wisdom lacking In my everyday affairs, And I much too frequently was selfish When I engaged in splitting of hairs. I learned too late that love and faith Are the cornerstones of life, And I walked alone up all the hills Engaged in nothing but strife. Too late it was when God reached out And I faced my Judgment Day. He wanted to know my justification And what I had to say. The gift of life is what He gave, And I gave it nary a thought, But then I remembered that I helped raise Our children who can’t be bought. “We taught them love and kindness,” I said, “And respect for humankind.” And God nodded His head and granted relief To this creature that had lived so blind. In moments now of peace and spirit, I honor our cherished past. I didn’t share what you deserved, my dear, But your love is what made it last. Yes, if I could go back to Earth one day, I know what I would do. I’d fall on my knees and kiss your feet And thank you for being you! Copyright 2008 Richard Lee Orey

Richard, "If I Could Go Back..." is really beautiful. It's the kind of message we all want to leave our loved one/s. Fortunately, for you, you have plenty of time to live up to these wonderful words you've written--and I know you do anyway. I recall when you long ago when you said, "I don't write poetry." Now, you write beautiful poetry, and I know there are many more in your heart and mind. Keep writing, Richard.
