Christchurch 22nd February 2011

Well it was a quiet day and nothing was really on my mind
I was working away on web design
Then the silence was broken with a shattering roar
As things started falling to the floor

The ground was rocking beneath my feet
As the television was thrown upon the floor
The earthquake hit with such a hiss
As buildings fell among the dusty mist

The port hills fell as we witnessed the disarray
As the liquefaction arose once more
It was the hardest thing to live this horror again
As liquefaction enveloped the land

My oldest son was at his school
And that was the hardest thing that made it cruel
My wife and other son were in the city
What they saw was nothing cool

There was the living among the rubble
And there was no power or water amongst this trouble
Survivors lie among their fate
As others departed for heavens gate

My thoughts go out to those who are dead
And then they’re to the living and missing yet
So many lost souls among the thread
No silk lined pillow to rest their heads

Rescues were quick to answer the call
Our spirit endured, as our city fell
The cathedral looked as if it had walked through the depths of hell
As the red rock fell on the place upon which we dwell
