The Recipe

A favorite family recipe lay on the table. My son was moved to write this poem.

 

 

An old recipe, nothing to some,

So much more to me.

Millions of meals, disasterous or delicious.

Caked onto a ragged and torn piece of paper. 

Stained multicolors of brown and yellow.

This old useless and worn paper says so much more to me

Than how many eggs go into noodles. 

It shows me a hundred happy birthdays, a wedding

and the love of a devoted mother.

A beautiful poem that immediately brings to mind memories of old, stained, and much-used recipes. I love the insight that made this recipe a cause for reflecting on the love behind the many meals that have been served.
