My mother passed away. Life will never be the same.

By Mendy Thompson

I lost my best friend today
She was my best friend in the whole wide world
She cared more about me than anyone ever has in my life
It was unconditional love and I did not have to be worthy
It just was

She would have walked through fire for me
She would have climbed mountains for me
She would have gone to war to defend me
She would have died for me
She just would have

I am not sure how to fill the loneliness I feel
I seem to be driving without a map
Where is the closest station to refill my empty tank?
Where is my intersection of “Happiness Street” and “Pain Free Avenue”?
Where do I turn?

They say that time heals all wounds
They say that tomorrow brings less pain
They say that tomorrow is a brand new start
They say you’ll get over it in time
It’s a big fat lie

I lost my mother today
There was barely time to say goodbyes
One day she was talking and smiling and playing scrabble
The next day she is not well
The next day she dies

To all who have ever said “that’s not fair!”
You have no idea
But we are just players on the field and we do not call the plays
The One who does knows better than we do
He just does

A tribute penned from a caring heart.

My heart grieves for you at the loss of your mother. You are right though, the pain just continues to linger and only more questions added with no answers. A void that will never be filled except for all the many fond memories of a life shared...

Be always safe,
Karen

My sincere condolences go out to you as I too lost someone on Good Friday that I thought would be around for a long time to come. Time is the only healer and it does not so much heal but soothes and refreshes the heart that bleeds like a knive has pierced it until we can gain control again. Your poem is a loving tribute to a wonderful woman and I am sure she will love it.

"Where is the closest station to refill my empty tank?" I love this line, Mendy. It almost sounds like a desperate attempt to fill the void in your aching heart. There is healing in the writing process, and you have expressed yourself beautifully here. No, things will never again be the same, but you will always have your memories. No one can take them from you. They are yours forever, and you can visit those memories anytime you like. You won't have to share your mother with anyone. It will just be the two of you, one-on-one.

Love,

David

I am so sorry for your loss, Mendy; may God be with you in this time of grief!

I know the pain of this: lost my own mom 19 years ago; she didn't make sixty (she would have been sixty in May of that year; she died in March, on St. Patrick's Day). And lost my daddy almost a year ago; it will be a year in May, on the 28. He would have been 78 in October had he lived. I miss them both so much!!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <
