Twin sister and I are going on an Alaskan cruise, thanks to an out of the blue, surprise phone call. A HUGE blessing from God. THANK YOU!!! Dreams DO come true .
We fly out of DFW September 10, cruise out from Vancouver, British Columbia the 11th. 10 days, 10 nights. WOW.
It took thirty years, longer,
these dreams to come true : to see
The Big Country: ALASKA!
Blame it on Jack London. His
stories of adventure in
the land of snow and ice was
the beginning: he painted
it so vividly on the
backs of my eyelids that I
knew I had to see it for
myself. One day. But that day
never came. Joined the Air Force
to travel: when asked where I
wanted to go, there was no
hesitation: Alaska.
Alaska. Alaska. Put
Northern Japan for a bit of
variety, but back to
Alaska. And if I could
not go there, would settle for
Australia. Got Texas.
Spent my whole tour here. Never
left. Been here thirty years, as
I've said. But my heart was North,
in Alaska. I would see
pictures in magazines and
wish that I were there. I'd read
everything I could about
the state that was as old as
me. But then, two weeks ago,
totally out of the blue,
a surprise phone call: 'Do you
and your twin have passports?' Wait.
What?!?? 'You and your sister are
going on a cruise, your ship
leaves in five weeks. It's paid for.'
But how -- ?!? 'Consider it a
blessing from God. You're going
TO ALASKA!!!' Oh, my word.
Thank You, God. Dreams DO come true !
I too am an 11 year Air Force veteran. Yes, the AF sent me many places: Germany, Japan, Guam, Hawaii, Australia, but never to visit Alaska. That TV show about the family in Alaska is one of my favorite. Alaska: The Last Frontier....
Yes, I am a native Texan (Waccco)altho at times...
In your next life, Karla, when you join the military you will have learned in this life that you ask for the opposite end of the world when asked about where you want to be stationed...hence, next time ask for Texas, even if that request comes from God himself...he'll know where you want to be for eternity...enjoy ur trip...e
That certainly is wonderful and I know you will enjoy it very much. The closest I ever got to Alaska was reaching the Alcan Highway in northern British Columbia, taking a right turn and driving to Jasper, Alberta on a new gravel road. I would love to take the same cruise you are and hopefully will, someday.
I was on a Caribbean cruise on of Galveston a few years ago and met a wonderful couple and their teenage children. He was a severely injured quadriplegic. They were from Alaska. They were enjoying the sun and fun of the Caribbean after a long hard winter where they live.
