It's amazing the way that the sun seems to darken the darkest surroundings
Shedding its unwelcome light on overflowing ashtrays
Light hitting empty bottles projecting rainbows on yellow walls
Another day and it'll be a long one
The nights before all start to seep back into memory
Swishing into her brain quicker a swallow of whiskey
Hope lies dead in a pool of blood in the bathroom
As she walks out to greet the day
With a glass-eyed look and fake satin smile
To the strangers that nod a head her way
The door to the bar jingles as it closes
At the anticipation that a new customer has arrived
The men inside all turn her way in hopes they could outguess her
But when they see her silk-covered metal skin they just turn back
Her manners just as perfect as the 1950s
with a gutter mouthed grin as she takes a seat
And lips as soft as petals in the springtime
And hand cold as ice, they grip her drink
The men all know behind the smile it is dead
whatever part of her was once alive
when the picture-perfect husband left her frozen
he left a shell just dying to survive
So now the sad-eyed woman does the motions
goes to sleep at night with just one hope
That the dreams she has that night are full of terror
So she can try to wake again

This is very powerful Alexis. Not having experienced what this poor soul has gone through, I did feel her hurt. She must have been hurt very badly to sink so low. It is poems like this that bring the dark side of the world to our notice.
I felt for her, sadly I gave the excuse that it was only a poem, but it is real isn't it, people like this do exist.
