Pride

In defiance the smoldering fire brimmed
with red puffed lips,
wading through the dampness
of an unseasonable rain
like an invincible firestorm,
gasping for breadth
till its strength grew
weaker, and weaker,
with every passing minute.

Saddled with a deflating flatulence,
trapped in a cloud of petulance,
mocked by the cracking walls of opulence,
rocked by every pang of turbulence,
the fire became a house of pestilence.

And before it woke from its stupor,
it drowned in a watery grave
with ashes of regret.

Beautifully penned. I agree with Joyce Bell that "Pride goes before the fall." Amen.

I feel sometimes, when we admit when we are wrong, it adds pride, we show we have the other person, we are the "big" person in saying we were wrong. THose who can't admit wrong, sometimes, hide what they think are pide and it will come back to bite you. Ashes will smolder, and eventally will be blown away when we admit, our pride got the best of us. Put together so beatuifully.

Pride has a history of going down in flames. You had me going and I held fast until I made it to the finish line and cheered. Good ending.
