There was a time
But never mind
That time no longer exists
No semblance of it remains
I’m the only one who remembers
And I need to accept the truth
You’ve moved on
I’m the only one hanging on
I try to continue when no hope prevails
So be it
The only one who can remove my pain is I
It’s no longer worth my effort to try
The word ‘surrender’ is heresy to me
I hate that word
To give up completely?
Just to walk away?
That goes against everything I believe in
Acquiescence is not in my nature
But again, so be it
You’ve removed my choices
My alternatives are gone
I’ll always question this
Wonder, ponder, and contemplate
What could have been if you’d just believed?
