She catches a glimpse of herself,
and stops to see the person in the mirror.
No, no is that really me? She says.
Oh, my is it really, me?
Memories of seesaw, the swing, monkey bars.
Running and playing, Ice cream truck at the park.
Dolls, easy bake oven, ponytails and ribbons.
Play house, teacher, and Coney Island.
Run and jump, stickball on the street.
Ride a bike, tricycle, five speed.
Homework, birthday's, hide and seek,
Sunday school, piano, sit on Santa's knee.
First date, first kiss, first love, first bliss.
Heartbreak, heartache, joy and tears.
Laughter, giggles and first taste of beer.
Movies, magazines, future looks clear.
How fast the years truly go by.
Words our elders once said come to mind.
So much love and sadness filled her world.
If only the aging process would slow down.
Years go by swiftly, it’s true she says.
You almost forget where you are today.
You turn around and in a flash you’re fifty.
Look back at thirty, forty and wonder about sixty.
Look back to all the good and bad.
Love, hate, passion, happy and sad.
Look back and see the road you braved.
With family, friends and your lover from the bay.
Dancing with the man of your dreams.
Flowers, gifts, intimate scenes.
A diamond ring he slipped on your finger.
Wedding dress, honeymoon is just the beginning.
First fight, second fight and a baby on the way.
Third fight, fourth fight, mother in law came to stay.
Divorce, death, so much you survived,
And now you see fine lines around your eyes!
Where did the time go, fifty, oh my!
Sadness, emptiness, worries on her mind.
Feelings of old age and the end being near.
Then it hits her, there’s more life to be lived here.
Fifty, oh my! Look at those lines.
But that’s okay; she’s still HOT they say.
Take each day by the horns and worry no more.
So much left to do, so much life still inside of you.

Chin up. I didn't write a poem on this topic till I turned sixty. Be well, Liz
