past

I walked you down to the porch on Walnut.
It was another late summer evening and the crickets were playing their swooning song of night. We each had our wounds and memories, places we both missed and places we tried hard to forget. There were moments that night, inescapable moments when each of us let our guard down and trusted one another. But we each let the moment go by afraid of so many things. And afterwards we did the safe thing, made promises that neither of us kept. But that last night your laughter was like magic in the darkness as the crickets sang and the moon slowly sunk in the ocean of heaven.

Great details, sounds like it would make an excellent longer piece.
