Why Don't We Talk

Let's climb up to the tree house
or lay on our backs in the grass
Watch for fairies to form in the clouds
whisper as they pass

We could talk about an elephant's eyes
and why they look so sad
Do they droop from the weight of his wrinkles
or does he really feel that bad

We miht ponder if we stood real close
if his tears from that lofty height
would give us a good enough shower
that we could skip our bath tonight

We could talk about just what an artichoke is
how you eat it...how it grows
How would a chocolate covered cricket taste
and can you really eat a rose

We could plan a trip to Katmandu
if we could find it on the map
Does it really rain cats and dogs there
do their fleas ever need to nap

We could talk about a bagillion things
with no need to speak a word
It's the magic between special friends...
that silent words are heard

Made me think back to my early college days when every dream seemed possible and breaks between classes were spent cloud surfing with the soon to be mother of my children.

Completely enchanting poem, Pat! You put me right there....on the grass looking up at the sky......your home page is very interesting...especially the stuff about how your mother didn't write anything down....I feel the same about my precious Mom....I have only a few clever quotes she wrote down (her penmanship was a thing of beauty) and I treasure each one. Too bad she didn't keep a diary...I'm trying to do that for my children, but at least for me I'll leave behind stories and poetry that will tell them who I was.

This is a delightful poem, Pat. There is a small typo here: "We miht ponder..." I enjoyed reading this as it awakened vivid memories of my childhood. Love and best wishes,

Fabulous! I loved every word, every image, every verse. You really capture the sense and deep meaning of friendship and display it gently before us.

Wonderful writing, Pat.

Happy new year!

Pat,
This is a delight, a sheer delight - witty, imaginative and very well written. As Christine says, I could linger here all day.
This I save.

My best childhood friend is still my friend fifty years later. We talked a lot more fifty years ago than we do now and this is a great reminder of those days and those talks. Thank you, Pat.

PS Guess I’ve just been missing your posts because it appears as though there have been a number of them since I last spoke to you, Still, it seems like it’s been a long time. I'll try to do better.
