Looking down into the darkness where my black boots meet the wet pavement see if I can match my heartbeat to the tap-tap-tap of my heels I hear them scrambling behind me I hear their saliva rasping in their throats and swinging toward the ground I can smell their retchedness as it slowly begins to fade I wonder what I look like in this moment with this self-satisfied smile on my face I wonder if you would find some smallness to love in me right now And I somehow imagine that you're watching me From a window above shrouded in darkness I can feel your eyes on me So I look up at you and smile brighter Shove my hands into my pockets And let the bounce catch my feet I haven't forgotten, my love That there are depossessed demons behind me I just no longer care to walk backwards.

I like it it reeks of life. of life that doesn't realize anything. also the juxtaposition of needing love and the inability to love anything is great.
