evening's faulty equilibrium

under the dwindling afternoon 
we guess at the words to
the meadow larks' 
songs

you:       i weaR tHe         sUn For a          HAT
me: 
       Please
       Shut
       Your
       Beak
       When
       You
       Chew
 
                  just then 
clumsy evening
tripped and fell 
                  (probably on the clouds she left
                         scattered on the floor)
slicing her lips on the 
serrated hills, 
spilling vermillion 
across the horizon
staining all in sight
til even the
grass sub-foot
oozed out her
iridescent 
essence
 
I gasp at the blood
you gasp at the beauty
