At my counseling appointment
This is un-edited so far...

Read aloud...
I should tell you...I do not feel comfortable reading out loud
So I try not to do it...
You should do it anyway
No! …
Your not being open...

Today I said No!
And you think I’m being closed minded
Yet, My mind is not closed
I can still see where you are coming from
I hear all the words you are saying
But your not open to my boundaries
and can’t see why they are in place
I get that you see it as part of a bigger picture
Your sure the wall makes me unhappy, I see it in your face
But they’re not as bad as you think
See from where I sit it sets me free
I am not bound to the words on a page
The order they are meant to be read by
Instead I study your face when you talk...not the letters on a page

Don’t misunderstand words are beautiful,Stories are great, dialog is important.
But what the average person sees as a simple task...
Well, it’s a challenge and even a battle for me
While words can flow simply and smooth from my mind to my lips
The connection of the words on a page,
to my mind,
from my mind
to my lips…
It’s not a simple task.

While my eyes dance around on the page
my mind is trip over the last word read
then my lips are slipping on the words... I am not sure how their said.

And where you may argue that I just
need to try,
practice and be patient, feel safe in your environment
I have heard it before,
Just know that I have played this game
And although dyslexia is my daily battle,
It really causes me no pain
I can still read albeit at a much slower pace
I have no problem with taking the time, on my own time
And I’m sure you mean well but please don’t push me
I don’t like the feeling of pressure to do something I feel uncomfortable with
So,I don't read aloud.

Strikes me as very personal. I hope he/she gets to read it, out loud or not.

You should become a storyteller and hold readings, I think your reading aloud would be great, Melissa.
