This is about domestic violence, and written from the point of view of a child. Because it is about domestic violence, I upped the rating.
Dear Santa, I know you thought that I would ask
For a football or a baseball or other easy task
But this year, my wish is for so much more
I can only hope you are up for the chore.
I am just so tired, at home, of the conflict.
I do not want you to make everything perfect,
I know that is far too much to ever ask.
I am just tired of hiding behind a mask.
I run to school as fast as my legs can carry
And yet on the return trip I always tarry.
My teachers compliment me on my homework done
Never realizing that schoolwork is a haven.
Locked in my room I do not have to see
The bruises that my dad gives to mommy.
I try always to be never, ever be bad.
I do not want to be beaten by my dad.
Please Santa, if you can hear my plea
Stop the violence, and help my mommy.
And while you are helping my mother and me
Help any other children that you see.
I know there is one other girl at school
The one that the other boys ridicule.
I know she is beaten too, I can tell.
I know the clues, I know them well.
I've seen the way she hides from men;
I've even seen the bruises now and then.
Though I know not who gives her these,
Like me, she lives in fear; help her please.
One last thing I would like to ask;
One last thing, if not too great a task:
Make sure I always remember these days,
I don't want to repeat my daddy's ways.
