Poem Artwork

yes/no

right/wrong

good/bad

life/death

honesty/deceit

opposites…

simple when viewed as a game,

like elementary child’s play.

yet, within this world,

rarely is anything so easy...

shades of gray do exist, even

when obeying the moral compass.

I had never been a fan of the

in between until recently…

for it is that gap…that foggy space,

that has given me the opportunity to grow.

Dawn, I am not a fence walker...as I have not really looked at it in that light...nor in shadows but I find that there is just enough room there to grow and if I had been forced to that place...then it was all to the good just as it has given you that same opportunity. Excellent write on these "Shades of Gray" and I must thank you for that.

Yes there are rules however thet forgot to put in the rules for But or Why, when we know in our herat it is the time to change them just a "little". Great write Dawn.

In our frail attempts to neatly classify everything so as to deal with it without conflict, we overlook the reality. Black and white are the exceptions rather than the rule. Gray abounds and requires adjustments of subtlety from our weary, black and white intellects. Nothing is so certain as uncertainty. A great awakening poem Dawn. Thanks for sharing it my friend. Love and peace to you. Jon Michael

Yes! I wrote a poem about the 'gray' once. The gray has always been a favorite place of mine.

I couldn't agree more. We seem to start out wanting to stay in the white, but life itself makes it impossible. Great thought in this piece.

For me, a solid philosophical insight.

as black and white, there is much gray space

I am intrigued by the last stanza Dawn. If black is evil and white is pure good, then one would have to say that we all reside in that grey zone.

"...rarely is anything so easy..." - indeed, Dawn.
Grey murk holds and often masks the truth, the area of real, not always attractive but where it's at.
And the truth helps us grow, we get closer and closer to understanding.
Very well expressed.

And one does grow.
I remember walking to school and playing in the playground on a grey foggy day with the clouds just above sight level. Yet always on foggy days it meant the sun was on his way and by playtime at dinner, the sky was blue and we'd live life to the max, as if that was the only moment in time that really mattered.

Most of life, I have found, actually unfolds in the gray area. The black/white paradigm is actually more of a political- social engineering construct to divide the masses and manipulate opinion. Good poem indeed. Enjoyed.

YOU ARE RIGHT...I BELIEVE THAT IT IS IN THE 'FOGGY PLACE', WHERE WE RELENT AND ADMIT WE JUST 'CAN'T UNDERSTAND', THAT GOD IS ABLE TO BEST 'GUIDE' US. THANK YOU, DAWN...FOR A LOVELY OFFERING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Ah, Thanks alot! (Said with great sarcasm!) :~) I just want you to know that I was happy in my space of hating gray. Now, because of your poem, I have to take another view of it and reconsider my dislike for that foggy gray space.

Maybe the reason I have had a dislike for that foggy gray is that I have always equated it with being in limbo and the stress headaches that brings. But in the end, I see the truth in what you write, for in battling to be in the black or white we grow by learning to choose and fight for what we want, be it black or be it white or any other color for that matter.

Thought provoking poem... all of that from your succinct gray poem.

"The gap...that foggy space" is the place where creativity lays in wait. In wait to pounce up and grab us as we linger there. I love this poem Dawn!

Nice poetry! It makes one think. I am an extremist. I cannot do things half-way or at least that is not my nature. Lately I tend to be on the religious right. God place be here and here I stand.

Interesting.-- Fences, boundaries, restrictions-- without them there would be confusion. Even a fog horn warns us of danger. Life can't be lived to the extreme to prove you are not dull but only foolhardy.
