'Tis told to me that one can wear
A mask so thin and fine
That none will know, 'cept God and He won't care
For he knows what lies beneath this wrinkled frame of mine.
And so I don the mask
And test this case and see
If family, friends ,aquaintences can pierce the outward me.
The mask fits fine and the marks of time
Are in a trice well wiped away.
And so I tread my usual haunts, but what is this? I say.
None know nor care to speak to me
I've become an unknown stranger to my friends!
It's then I saw the masks they wore
So none then knew the other.
Let's lose the masks and take to task
The caring of each other.
So true we as well as all that surround us
Wear a mask of some sort or another
I am beginnig to see through those of some so call friends
As I haven't yet decided yet to wear mine.
Thank you for this excellent piece

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(
I've always thought that myself. I wish I'd written this one. I wrote one called 'The Mask' several years ago if you want to read it. Excellent poem!
