my memories of recent trip to Stirling

I chased the wild haggis

Tho' none were about.

But I feasted on haggis and neeps.

And journeyed far north to the lochs and the glens

And saw the beauty  of gold at my feet.

The snow of Glencoe and the white stones of crying

Wept through my dreams in the night.

But great was the grandeur of braken and mountains

And the soft snowy owls silent flight.

What shall I say of the time with my sister?

Too quick, far too quick went the time.

We talked and we walked,

We laughed and we dined

And shared the best of the wine.

The tour showed us grandeur of mountains and glens.

And small painted houses between.

Of peaceful sheep grazing, and cattle and fen.

Under stormy clouds towering again.

I loved the heather, the wind and the rain

The people, their dress and their food.

I see no reason, except money and time

Not to return to Stirling again.

Note  Haggis was minced lamb. Neeps is swede/turnip.

The Haggis is supposed to be a small furry creature with short front legs that the highlands bop on the heat, skin and cook. But Health and safety regulations have changed the real Haggis to something more acceptable to modern tastes.

To my shame I have never even been there!!! Carlisle on the borders is the nearest I have got to even getting within striking distance of the mythical national beast! Penned well, Olita, and it's true what they say about never venturing into your own backyard. I'll probably get to Tasmania first! :)) xx

Beautiful vision here Olita, seen plenty of photos, the rugged yet beautiful scottish country side, & I miss some of that old style cooking.

Well done.
Dave.
