Things I Say in my Head

Regrets and Memories

There are things I still say tucked in my head

As I try to sleep alone in my bed.

But now you are dead and cannot hear my fears

As I face this world alone after fifty years.

Sometimes I laugh at the things you used to say

Like 'Chicken today, feathers tomorrow"

But now I weep silently into my pillow

And wish I could hear them again.

Did I say I love you enough while you were here?

Did I say I had nothing to fear?

Did we share enough time together?

Facing the fires and drought  and wet weather?

These are the things that go round in my head

As I lie alone in the big wide bed.

I still hear the last words to me my pet.

"I have always loved you Leet."

But still I wish I could hear you say them again.

My heart goes out to you, Olita. I am so sorry for your loss...it must be so very hard. Reading your poem brought tears to my eyes for you, and I asked God to help you feel Him loving and comforting you.

Loss is loss and one cannot "sugar coat" the pain that it awakens. I find your verses most compelling, Olita. Love and best wishes to you,

Lovely thoughts for your lost love. I hope you'll be able to sleep with pleasant dreams soon, knowing that you had a wonderful life together and a new time of your life is beginning.

Exquisite form, pain and yearning, Olita! Your cadence was sweeping, rhyme and rhythm, perfect! Enjoyed much!
