I'm confused by the environmental vibes
ripling out of Washington's hives.
Are the powers that be protecting our environment
or more concerned with the "now" of political betterment?
Is "Saving the environment" just a meaningless phrase to them?

Well, they reversed that decision
about California's strict emissions
but their decision still bothers me.
California can let its laws be
but no other State can do the same.

Thank you Congress for doing right
but wait a minute. Stop. Red light!
How can you let one State free
and hand-cuff the others without the key?
I'm not complaining--just asking how.

How can our Congress be so nearsighted?
Saving jobs while choosing to be polluted.
As if wrecking our environment will help everyone
to be healthy enough to work and earn an income.
Someday there won't be enough environment left.

Why must they sacrifice the future for now--
drill for more oil and increase nuclear power?
Why must they use sacred Yucca Mountain
as a dump for leaky nuclear waste bins?
Just because it's buried, it won't go away.
