an unbearably hot day
fades into an almost tolerable night
it's cooler now
not enough, but almost
the memories of the heat
and the sweat
and the unease with oneself
not to mention others
who come too close
linger near the front of the mind
the feel of hot skin
against your own
almost hard to accept now
when remembering the heat of the day
the angry sun
if not for the fan
that cools you
the open window
the faint breeze
leaving you free to focus on the heat
of someone else touching you
focus on how great it actually feels
and push away those memories
of the awful heat
the weight of the air
forgetting about the day
and remembering only the night
spent with someone you love
