He held my heart in hands that shook
like fragile wind-blown limbs
bending in a pre-storm breeze.
Carefully, he let it go
into the gentle sands of time
where it still beats.
A noble gesture, after all…
I still remember how connected
we once were
before the falling
of our tears
had drowned our souls.
Before the emptiness that came.
I try to find this source of distance
that has grown,
that has leapt into the throat
with songs of sorrow.
It leaves me cold
to know that I can only say…
that I have loved and lost
and loved and lost again.
Poignant song of loves lost...you speak of him letting you go with tenderness and it's nobility. Yes, it is noble, for such cruelty can ensue at the end of a relationship. The pain is measurebly the same, though. You allow us to feel that pain, Melissa...
(It reminds me of a joke that I think is very funny, but I won't share it here and ruin the mood of your page. Email me if you think a little humor might be therapeutic. :)
Peace,
Fritz

Beautiful, sorrowful piece... I love that third stanza
"I try to find this source of distance
that has grown,
that has leapt into the throat
with songs of sorrow."
It works fantastically... you really feel that distance in the throat there... where are you? I miss your writing. :(
This touched me to the core. So well expressed.
Excellent opening and closing lines; just beautiful, Melissa.
I sure do miss reading your work. I hope you're well.
i always say, better to love and have lost it than to not have loved at all ...

This is excellent in every way. From each heart string you pull to the tears that you make run down a face. You took us there and back. You have some outrageously FINE! FINE! images!!! ALWAYS you do. This right here is Dickinsonish to me:
"It leaves me cold
to know that I can only say…
that I have loved and lost
and loved and lost again."
This ending just ripped my heart out. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL work! I didn't know that something that could hurt so bad could ever be turned into something --BEAUTIFUL---! WOW.
There is such beauty in these verses that transcends the pain of loving and losing love, warmed only in the sunlight of memory. But you know as well as I, that the sun shall always continue to shine into our hearts and souls. You are correct, you have been away too long, I, too, miss your work.

Melissa, missed your beautiful poetry. This is quite different for you, I think. I was looking for rhymed verses. Well constructed piece and a pleasure to read.
Melissa so good to read you again! This is so bittersweet, it makes the heart ache, a superb write!
