Equality wasn’t meant

  for those who don’t fit in!

  Exclusionism brings comfort

  and helps raise the self esteem!

  Let’s get rid of all the disabled--

  their minds aren’t worth a hoot;

  and all of those who don’t look like us--

  we should give them all the boot!

  But really when all’s said and done

  would there be anyone left?

  For who’s to say who fits in

  and who is worth being left out?

  We each have our differences

  that some would call our flaws,

  but I prefer to think of them

  as what gives us each our edge.

  My children with their dark skin

  don’t look a bit like me,

  but they know what it feels like

  to feel they don’t fit in.

  It has given them compassion

  for others who don’t fit in

  and they look past the outward skin

  to find others’ gifts within.

  My daughter with her wheelchair

  has legs that do not work,

  but oh the joy she brings to life

  by complimenting others!

  The world would be a dismal place

  if we all looked alike,

  and what a boring place ‘twould be

  if we all thought alike!

  Let’s get rid of the mindset

  that others aren’t good enough!

  Let’s lift and help and look within

  and help each other win.
