A poem about lost of life and hopes as related to Hurricane Katrina 8/29/2005.
Gone
Some 18 months later
and I'm still feeling like
something is missing
I feel lost and
I just can't seem to find my way
back
Things are still dirty
and in some places you can still
smell death in the air
and no one seem to care
that bodies of my people
are still being found
buried deep beneath
the wood and bricks that once made
that place that they called home
I feel lost and empty
when I go to places that were once
very familiar to me
and I hope and pray to see
a now open sign
on the front door
than reality sets in
again
18 months post Katrina
and folks still live in less than
standard conditions.
Houses not gutted from the floods
and kids playing ball among the
debris
the smell of rotten wood
in the neighborhoods that I once
called home
gone
never to be seen again
leaving behind the pain and the
crys of innocent folk who died
and suffered the horrible death
of drowning
and kids watching moms body go
limp, and than flot face down
and they hang around because
they never been anyplace without
mom before
the horror and the nighmares those
beautiful brown babies will have
and government just laugh and trun
their heads
waiting for their turn to swing
that club towards that tee
to never really see what we see
in the morning before we start our
day
and at night when we are to afraid
to sleep
I'm just gone with the wind
I'm just gone
never to see home the way I
remember it again.
I watched the horror on TV and it still brings me pain. Keep writing and get the stories out. This was well written. Congrats on the new book...You go girl... :) Janice
It's been two and a half years, and it's still not fixed - oh, the touristy areas, maybe, but not the places where N'Awlins throbbed with life - with love - same old same old. Hear you, girl - please keep writing (righting), I'll keep reading/reviewing. Tracking you to not miss another word -
All the pain, frustration and agony still continues as so many try to get their lives back on track. A difficult road to walk down and you have expressed this well....
Excellent and emotionally packed offering all that a poem could pertaining to this horrific and unforgettable holocaust that continues to linger and hover in the hearts of many.
Personally, I believe the feelings and descriptions you shared will never go away or at least I know they will not for me.
My heart goes out.
Welcome to the den hope you enjoy your stay and congratulations on the release of your upcoming book.
