G'day all, sorry for being away so long, I have had a number of requests for performances, Australia day, ANZAC day & a big one I'm being flown to Sydney in March to appear in a poetry project involving Truckie poets, I now also have a weekly local radio segment writing topical poetry, so, yes I have been on a real high, but have been brought back down some with the recent & ongoing fires in Victoria,Australia's worst in history. We have been battling record flooding throught Queensland, but really feel for our fellow Aussie's down south. This is the poem I wrote & read on air Wednesday 11th. I hope you all like what I have done.
Dave.

Troubled Times

Anyone would think Mother Nature has lost the plot
We're receiving record rains, while down south it's stifling hot
Why all the flooding, it's a mystery to me
While Victoria's fires are now the worst in history.

The dangers that lurk when flooding creeks rise
How muddy waters become the perfect disguise
News filters through and it's really quite a shock
A five year old boy is tragically taken by a croc.

Why do they do it, why take a chance
When approaching flooded roads continue their advance
Don't rely on good luck or good old wishful thinking
Now we have a man drowned and another still missing.

Makes me shake my head and I truly wonder why
How some cause so much grief and make people cry
Seems a lot of Victoria's fires were deliberately lit
Hearing about these low life's, I just couldn't believe it.

I'm a Maroon and I say it with pride
But now is the time to put state rivalry aside
I know they're Mexican's, but they're Aussie's as well
In need of our help to survive their own hell.

Banks and Red Cross are taking help by the score
Let's show how north Queenslander's can come to the fore
We've got our own troubles, yes! I know this is true
But see what you can spare and show you're true blue.

It's the way we do it, Aussie helping Aussie
Banding together is part of our history
Fighting fires, flood or on a distant foreign shore
Our camaraderie leaves other countries in awe.

David,
Welcome back and congratulations on all your recent success, well done, Sir! Long may you thrive.
To the poem, this is fine commentary on the horrible fires and floods the good people of Australia have suffered in the past fortnight and I thank you for sharing it with us. Excellent work.
John

David, I very much understand the conflict between "brothers" who share the same country. We have our share here in the US and I have never understood it. My thoughts are with you all over there during these tragedies. Your words describe well the pain you feel for your fellow countrymen. We each have to do our small share and realize that someone out there is helped and someone else is watching us and we can hope it serves to trigger their humanity.

Dave,

Aptly titled, "Troubled Times", from the fierce floods up north, to the fiery gates of hell down south, challenging times for all. Great writing as always mate.

Your mate Stuart down south
