It's almost dusk and I am jogging
slow like I'm 38
with no business doing this
but I jog to feel it like I'm 9
with no other business But this!
See it's the pace I get wrong
start too fast, burn out too fast
start too slow, wanna burn it all off at the end
with none left for the return
yet here I am
casual-steady at first
focused determination later:
gut empty, muscles eating sugars, mind emptying
thoughts into breath into blessings given back
as emotional words of - Thanks.
II.
It's dusk and I am counting-off push-ups
slow like I am 38 with all the experience
on pacing these:
each one
a water droplet born flat until gravity,
until the descending decision
when the chest is first,
the shoulder blades once spread
begin to contract & pinch together
the body lower, lower
and like a droplet severing its ties
so does the body fall consciously
reckless like a tear
which fall in sets of 30.
