I walk along that lonesome road
My back turned toward the sun
Still chilled by thoughts and memories
Of the awful deeds I’d done
The lonesome road returns at night
In restless sleep with me
I start anew each time it comes
And hope I will not see
The deeds that haunt
Return each time and hold me like a vise
Until I jump bolt upright
With sweat that glistens bright
I’m older now and notice less
But memory is crisp
Like it was just yesterday
The jungle’s heat and mist
Friend’s faces fade from memory
As years go marching by
In sleep I still remember them
With screams before they die
A lonely road I walk each night
In nights so dark and deep
I know it will not make it right
As I fade off into sleep
