Together,
they'd climb to
the top, step
onto his rickety
wooden, balcony
and watch many suns go down over the restless city.
They'd sip organic coffee from a shared cup.
Twelve seasons,
and one spring drifted by.
During one of their evening walks by murky river-waters,
she noticed that his words took on a longing
for fertile ground, because he wanted to plant seed
and watch life spring forth.
For unlike Abraham's Sarah,
she could not honor him with the
greatness of fatherhood.
Then one winter night, while she slept in her barren-bed,
and he was in his own, a soft breeze comforted him with
a slender blade of tall green grass.
He planted seed, and in late summer,
life sprang forth.
Alone now, she stops by the lighthouse
abandoned from lack of care.
She takes one last look,
then drifts home
to sip 8 o'clock coffee,
then calls it a night.
