This is the story of Samson the Bold.
A Senegal parrot about seven years old.

He escaped one day from prison by the sea.
Landed in my back yard, was found by Heidi.

Heidi was my pet, my dachshund, my friend.
Barking and barking, her noise wouldn’t end.

It was my mother’s voice I finally heard,
“On the rubber tree over here is a bird.”

Above the barking, I hollered, “What?”
“Come out to see a beautiful parrot!”

His head was gray, his wings were green
His belly was the deepest yellow ever seen.

Clipped his wings so he couldn’t fly away.
He’s safe here and happy, it’s better this way.

It sapped his strength, thus the name, Samson.
Without flight feathers he’s still very handsome.

No one knows how long he’d been on the loose,
But he stole all of our hearts, and that’s the truth.

“Good Morning” he wishes then starts singing.
Yells “Hello” when he hears the phone ringing.

One of the cutest things we’ve ever heard,
Is when he says sweetly, “Hi Baby Bird.”

He shouts “Heidi” and whistles her call.
He says “Pretty Gramma” best of all.

Samson has manners, always says “Thank You”
Tells me, “You’re pretty” when I’m feeling blue.

Don’t try to touch him, it makes him uptight,
If he gets near to your finger he’ll take a big bite.

When he plays with his toys, we laugh til we cry
Sometimes he tells us he wants to “Go bye-bye”

This patriotic bird whistles the Air Force Hymn
Taught to him in part by a Fly Boy named Jim.

When it gets dark there’s no sign of a fight.
He goes to his perch and says, “Nite-nite”
