This poem is about domestic violence and rising above it as a strong woman.
The physical abuse
I witnessed
on the women
in my family
as well as the women
in our communities
as I child I knew
that wasn’t right.
Their faces and fears
made my stomach turn
to see these women
with broken bones
cuts
bruises
black eyes
busted noses
and
endless tears.
These were some
of the terrorism
and
brutality
I witnessed
behind the veil
of secrecy.
Then the men would come
with the flowers
and candy
and oh yeah,
the sob apologies
"I’m sorry baby
I’ll never do it again,
would you please forgive me?"
Hi Wander,I enjoy reading this excellent and well written poems on the harsh reality of domestic violence.Any man that would physically abuse a woman will never have my respect and they should be arrested for impersonating a human being and a man.Then all of a sudden they want to try and manipulate a woman by saying sorry and act like everything is preaches and cream.I like the ending of the poem as it sends a message that a woman will not put up with it anymore and will be a much stronger woman than ever before.Thank you for sharing this poem,take care
