monkey on my back
the urge is strong
yet not as strong
as I’d imagined
prayer is my inspiration
my strength is lifted
by his infinite love
and he doesn’t even know
my treacherous task chosen
It seems that suddenly
my mind is filled
with other thoughts
that hold more matter
those belonging to
the future I want now
more than before
even though I know
the withdrawals will come
the painful needy desire
when my body feels ill
and my attitude wants
to make my mouth scream
in the realm of detoxification
no matter how I get there
I shall remain firm
there’s no more reason
to hide behind the smoke
for I want to live long
and let this lingering life
as a smoker make a home
in my memory of the girl
I was from before

Good luck! Persevere, your life will be much the better without that cloud of smoke hanging around you.
