 My Little Girl Spoke…

My little girl (she is quite erudite) spoke

Demons are dancing in the dark

I said

Demons are my doctors

My little girl spoke

Clouds are dancing a dance of dirge

I said

Clouds are my doctors

My little girl spoke

Shadows are shifting on the shore

I said

Shadows are my doctors

My little girl spoke

A bird sang me a story

I said

Birds are my doctors

My little girl spoke

I had a dream that was quite dark

I said

Dreams are my doctors

My little girl spoke

My friends and I have love for you

I said

Friends are my doctors

And YOU are the head physician

Little daughter loved

This poem is very appropriate, as Father's Day is on the horizon. I have two daughters, Barbi Joy and Lisa Yevette, from my first marriage. My first wife died over 37 years ago. As you can guess from their names, Barbi Joy is happy, and Lisa Yevette has a more sophisticated and practical personality. I am outwardly like Barbi Joy, but I am very conservative and pragmatic deep inside. One thing rings true. If they were ever in any danger, I would do everything I could to help them out and bring them back to safety. Yes, they are both over 50, but that does not change my role as a Father. It's sad today, but I don't think they know this about me. It's in my DNA, and I would probably shoot to kill anyone who would harm my cubs in any way. Thank you, Regis, for helping to bring my awareness of my relationship with my daughters to the surface. It's as strong as ever. God Bless you, brother, John Michael

I don't know if you have a daughter but your dialogue in this poem is quite delightful even though, bit dark for a little girl to be wondering about those things.

I don't have a daughter. But one day when I just arrived at a friend who wanted to marry me's house for a visit, her daughter came up to me with paper and pencil and just out of the blue said, "Draw me a bird."

Her mother, shushed her and said, "Don't bother him, Arielle"

I sat down at the table and drew the best bird I ever drew in my life before or since.

Arielle was delighted with my drawing.

So beautiful! I wish I'd had kids of my own. Perhaps I could have enjoyed and cherished moments such as these.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
