Once again, not really a poem. Another song written in '79 while I was lost in the universe for a while.

Friends

I’m developing a whole new awareness

Of the way things really are

In the middle of a deep conversation

I can feel you drifting off so far

You oughta listen to me honey when I tell you

It’s time that things are rearranged

Either way we go apart or together

There’s gonna have to be a change

I can’t take your love the way you’ve been givin’

There has to be more reason to be livin’

Any day now I expect you to tell me

You just want to be my friend

That’s the same thing as telling me darling

You don’t want to see me again

I’ve been thinking that you might have a lover

I don’t know about

All you’d have to do is walk up and tell me

There’d be no more room for doubt

I’ve seen ‘em come and I’ve seen ‘em go baby

Rolling on down the road

Every time I lose another good lover

I just reach down and pick up my load

I can’t take your love the way you’ve been givin’

There’s got to be more reason for me to be livin’

Any day now I expedt you to tell me

You just want to be my friend

That’s the same thing as telling me darling

You don’t want to see me again

We both know what it means when you tell me

You just want to be my friend

Much truth in this-and I could hear it being sung as I read it.

This has both a sad meloncholy feel with a bit of a bite to it, but written well...

Be always safe,
Karen
