The Man in Me

I lay sleeping soundly,
after a long hard day.
In came a whispering wind,
to wake the stillness, where I lay.

The voices were soft spoken
burdened heavy
with anger and doubt;
leaving nothing out
and nothing to chance

Around me they gathered.
They cut to the quick
with their first stabbing wound,
into my heart alone in this room.

They brought up the past
of things I had done,
blamed my dead father
for such a lost son.

They cornered and stoned me
darkened my eyes,
as one fed the other
in casual lies.

It left me in pain
twisting and flinching
wanting to cry out.

I retreated deep
behind stone walls in my mind,
to assess the damage
of two of a kind.

The man they had spoke of
an unrecognizable face.

The morning came early
on the open road
I flew with the wind.
10 tons of steel around me
an old reliable friend.

On this January morning
I cried to the Father
begging him for grace.

As you died for me,
I claim your forgiveness.
Please help them to see
the man that hides in me.
I love them dearly,
as they looked at this life.

If I could change
for you and for me.
It could make the difference,
to a daughter and a wife.

IronMan, you are at your strongest inside of your most intense pain. It is this kind of emotion that leaves huge, literary imprints on our souls. You move me. In fact, I've written a tribute to the Iron Man...if you would like to preview it before I post it, send me your e-mail address....**Mari**

Another raw, emotional poem. You do portray pain so well, Tim, I can't help but feel it.

Very touching write...
"I cried to the Father
begging him for grace."
There's the "difference"--for His ears are attuned to His children's cries...
