HORSE JUMPING

The Most Important Secrets
You Must Learn
In Order to Train Your Horse How To Jump

You Don’t Have To Be a Professional Horse Trainer In Order To Train Your Horse How To Jump

“Learn how to train your horse how to jump in 10 simple steps”

(Part 2)

This is the second part of our article “Learn how to train your horse how to jump in 10 simple steps.” Be sure to read part 1 of the article first, it is that good.

Step Five
You should choose a different exercise for your horse today. Go for a hack with your horse. The horse will have a lot of fun and it will take any pressure the horse is feeling. Once thing you want to avoid is stressing out your horse from too much long, drawn out training secessions because it will reflect in their behavior. Begin the traing secessions the following day.

Step Six
Today you will need to do five minutes trotting poles. This will help refresh and reinforce everything the horse has learned so far. Set up a low cross fence and approach the fence in a confident trot. Make sure you keep the horse in a straight line when you are trotting toward the low fence. Be prepared to give with the reins just in case the horse jumps high. You do not want to catch your horse in the mouth that will put him off jumping.
Jump the jump from both sides then approach in canter.
Step Seven
Set up three jumps around the school separated from each other. Keep them low and jump them from both sides. Remember to praise and reward your horse. Have a good time with your horse because if you are having a good time, so will the horse. End the training secession after you have practice for a good amount of time and begin a new secession the next day.
Step Eight
Set up the same jumps as you did yesterday. The only difference is making them as low straight bars. Remember to continue jumping from both sides using a trotting or cantering pace.
Step Nine
Today starts a new day, but instead of training, you are going to have the horse rest today! Let the horse out of his stall and have fun with other horses.

Step Ten
Now your horse should know how to jump low fences and it will be just a matter of building the horse’s confidence level.   You will need to keep introducing different color jumps and different types of jumps, (a straight, a parallel, and a small spread). You should keep all jumps low for the time being. The main objective is to get your horse to feel confident not to see how high your horse can jump. By the end of the second week, you should be able to build a double fence for the force to jump. Measure two strides in between for the first one, to give your horse time to sort his legs out.
Important Tip:
Remember to keep all training short and fun. If you keep the training secessions short and fun, your horse will grow to love jumping as much as you do love it. Never over face your horse, is it far harder to get back their confidence once it has been gone. Time and patience is the key to success. If you follow my guidelines, your horse will reward you with years of jumping and competing if you choose to journey down the road of competition.
