"I could feel that the torch / Of the land I once knew / Was still burning / In you"

Poem Artwork

Present

for Kaye

Full of the future and

In Texas up a tree

The world fresh in your hand

But you don't quite know it

You remind me of me

Young friend fellow poet

Grandma called from the porch

She was wondering where

You were

I was glad you were there

With her

I could feel that the torch

Of the land I once knew

Was still burning

In you

And it turned my despair

Into yearning
