This lonely Friday night is revealing
A curious sense of community
Confronted through the television news
By the existential absurdity
Of our situation with a feeling
At the same time impotent and intense
Feeling this helpless sends the mind reeling
Creates a sense of shared futility
Whatever opinions divergent views
One might have had once lost to the suspense
Of it all in the fall humanity
Emerges from the surges left and right
Stunned conjoined by the stark enormity
Of fear and the question what about me
And you and what to do? Conformity
Of confusion in profusion tonight
Awed to silence by the gravity of
Responsibility we reach for light
And more alone than ever reach for love
