I write myself into then out of a corner As if with my own Christmas pie like Jack Horner When I am written in I write right out again Since I have stuck in my thumb and pulled out a plum
And that as much as anything is poetry Explained as much as such a thing can ever be This art which I practice yet which practices me In a self-induced altered state of consciousness
"A drug" you say and ask "Is it addictive?" Yes A corner with a door in the floor if you should Go inside to ride the tide and find yourself good At pulling plums in the corner from Christmas pie
