"What it feels like more than anything is love"

Poem Artwork

I Finally Wept for My Father Today

I finally wept for my father today
The one who abandoned me when I was young
When he was young too then the years had their way
With us both while to the last he held his tongue
As I did but the silence is broken now

He was my father even though he was wrong
Time passed us and in the end would not allow
The reunion I hoped for yet feared so long
But the silence between us is broken now
Like my mother's heart so many years ago

Sometimes I feel I can hear the voices of
All of my dead loved and lost known and unknown
One of those things no one can prove but just know
What it feels like more than anything is love
Speaking in the silence when I am alone

Which makes me wonder what to be alone is
And if the next voice I might hear might be his

Oh...there are huge tears streaming down my face! This is so touching and lovely. I feel sorry for the lost moments, but so happy you've found peace with it.

Moving work, Steven. Sometimes we need to let "it" out to relieve some of the pressure of "life."

I don't quite know what to say, yet, feel compelled to do so. I, too, believe that in the silence you can hear their voices telling us of their love. It helps - kinda, sorta.

God bless you and keep your strong. Kathy

Steven,

Your great big compassionate heart is showing in loving lines of forgiveness and healing. It took me six months to cry for my Mother after she died...six months wasted on anger, bitterness and sadness. Don't waste your life like that. Okay?

17 years now she's been gone, I miss her, still.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Wonderful write, Steve
It is full of love and forgiveness. Forgiveness heals.
