My country is no longer what it was
It seems no longer as it seemed before
It bumbled by through the days of my youth
Mismanaged by mere mediocrities
But lost its way in its hypocrisies
Falling further and further from the truth
Until we forgot what we came here for
If there is truth for lies as big as these
I want to go and look for it awhile
If only to somehow escape this rush
To descend to deeper idiocies
Where the numbers crunched are of those they crush
Those who sold souls for a handshake and smile
If only to reach for a reason why
I rise up now in rebellion because
My country no longer cares about me
And I am determined to do what I
Am destined to do here before I must
Like heroes and cowards rejoin this dust
I rise up now in rebellion because
I have decided to do what I please
To make it what it could be or it was
I rise up now to see my country free
If not for me at least someone someday
My country is no longer what it was
But it is mine or once was anyway
