It takes a couple hundred years to grow
A sapling to a sycamore this size
It grew here a score of decades ago
Slender then slim when seen by other eyes
I wonder if those other eyes could know
Now it has grown so would they recognize
This tree grown through the centuries to be
A place of pilgrimage along the way
A creekside watchtower by which to see
Past yesterday for me beyond today
By which to see tomorrow for my child
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
