Time Has a Way
for Maria with love for her birthday
Those who think they know the answers do not know
The questions or how to ask them we have found
It shows and they know we know this even though
They conceal it if they can see us around
By playing roles they think have been assigned them
By something other this might have made sense to
At one time but not to them now to find them
Becoming angry about what they believe
Rattled to realize it might not be true
And people get dangerous when what they say
Is fear shook to anger but time has a way
Perceptive in spite of themselves they perceive
That things are changing in spite of all they do
Flailing their futility against the clock
They are in a hard place and time is the stone
To make them stumble the rock to make them fall
Because time has a way of breaking the lock
Taking up the unknown shaking up the known
Waking up questions and how to ask them too
Refusing to leave certain subjects alone
But making it all work out right after all
On the way to tomorrow from yesterday
Time has a way
