Transcendental Sonnet #1465:
Temples Like These
In temples like these it must be true
People have shrugged and said
After the earthquakes what do they do
But build new ones instead
They all fall down along with the town
Along with everything
But above the dust and looking down
God has left the building
He could never fit in anyway
Love was all God wanted to say
And he might not have even been he
If God is love it must be true not just above
But down here and everywhere now God is there
In temples like these of earth like you and me
