for the Laughing Daffodil

Now is the thing I like best about spring
How it swings in and renews everything
Like just when my mind must find something new
Then I trust spring must know just what to do
To light my day its way out of the blue
And I am delighted to say to bring
Me out of the winter night I was in

The butterfly knows no time to die
The rose knows now is the how of why

The how of now the thing of spring I sing
Above all and yet I love everything
About it though sometimes doubt it but when
I get it have no doubt about it then
And so I arrive alive to begin
Now in the somehow within the something
Of spring now as how again and again

To care and not to care to sit still
When to laugh then with the Daffodil

When the weather seems like whether or not
Then spring remembers what winter forgot
Spring is what comes together nor between
Not for the not for the whether I mean
To bring the other in another way
To strengthen the light and lengthen the day
A way out of no way out anyway

Spring is the when of the how I feel
Then in the now of what becomes real

Exiting winter goes out demanding
Entering spring shows in understanding
Winter went out because it was driven
Mad by its sadness gone bad from within
Spring comes in with everything forgiven
Knowing how now then is when to begin
Showing how the only way out is in

How it swings in and renews everything
Now is the thing I like best about spring
