The ants marched by their millions through
The desert whence I write to you
What were they looking for? They knew

While struggling out there in the yard
Native ants though under siege by
Raiding invaders lived to die
Another day if they had to

If they must fight they hope and trust
Right over might whose cause is just
Fight for the best nor mind the rest

I just watched but got too sad to
Seeing myself in such as these
Subject to such indignities
As those their foes marched four abreast

The fight brought indoors got harder
The Lady from New Yawk fought hard
When they got into the larder

We got them out but then again
Testing our best by their mad quest
A most determined enemy
For Ladies from New Yawk or me

But the Lady knew to give them
Sugar water that makes them blow
Up inside out to outlive them

So we made an uneasy truce
To hope someday what came may go
Perchance fewer ants on the loose
We win till they will come back in

What goes up comes down after all
Now due to suffer like I do
So it goes for those ants in fall

To freeze in winter like me too
Down but I know to come up though
We fought them brought them to their knees
Who else is like that? I know who

Like us their after is before
They know what they are looking for

Great poem!

This time of year I understand your plight. The other day I noticed about 20 ants had found their way into my lemonade. After I drank the lemonade down with a straw, I noticed there were only four left. Based on the bitter taste in the lemonade, I would say that I won that battle.

Watch out with those invaders…

Ron
